VALSPAR INTERIOR PAINTS
Hometowne Lumber & Building Center and Hometown Kitchen & Bath Design Center have a large selection of Valspar interior paints for all your needs. We also have examples of proven color combinations for interior or exterior usage. However, BEFORE BEGINNING YOUR PAINTING PROJECT ...... a brief synopsis of paint finishes:
MATTE FINISH: Whether called flat finish or wall paint, this type of interior paint has a matte surface. This paint finish is usually used on interior walls and is especially good if you have to camouflage small wall bumps, cracks, or other imperfections, as this finish does not reflect light. While some flat paints advertise washability you may need to touch up scratches or marks so make sure to keep a little on hand after your project is completed.
FLAT ENAMEL: Flat enamel is a paint with a durabile flat, matte finish. It's a good choice of bathrooms and halls as it holds up to occasional cleaning.
EGGSHELL FINISH: Eggshell paint finish will have a very low sheen, as in the shell of an egg. It possess a slight hint of shine or gloss, good for walls, and holds up better with cleaning than a flat finish.
SATIN FINISH: Satin finish has a smooth, velvety look with a bit of a gloss. It is most often used for windows, doors, trim, or ceilings, but can also be used as wall paint. Satin is particularly suitable for high traffic areas like kitchens, bathrooms or children's rooms. It is formulated to hold up to cleaning and light scrubbing.
SEMI-GLOSS: Semi-gloss is most often used on doors, trim, and cabinets in kitchens and bathrooms. It is easily cleaned and shows a nice, subtle shine without being too shiney. Pre-
paint preparation is extremely important with this paint as any imperfection is highlighted by a semi-gloss.
GLOSSY: High gloss paints have an almost reflective quality that somewhat resembles enamel or plastic. This type of paint is more popular for use on a cabinet, trim and furniture in very formal or very contemporary setting. Sanding and wall preparation is imperative as the gloss will highly magnify any surface imperfections.
CLEANABILITY AND DURABILITY: A general rule of thumb is that the shinier the paint finish the better it will stand up to washing and cleaning. With this in mind, when painting children's rooms an eggshell or satin on the walls and semi-gloss for doors and moldings is recommended. These finishes better withstand repeated cleanings.
CEILING PAINT: You can purchase a basic white ceiling matte finish paint. Since cleanability or coverage is not generally an important consideration, some ceiling paints use cheaper formulations. If you need an exact color match for the color scheme of your room, choose regular tinted flat wall paint.
CEILING FINISHES: Ceilings in most rooms are painted with flat finish paint. You could also select an eggshell finish if the surface of the ceiling is flawless. Choose a glossier finish for good light reflection, but only if the ceiling is newly resurfaced and has no blemishes.
KITCHENS AND BATHS: Semi-gloss paint is the best choice for any area exposed to water, splashing or steam. A guest bath with less frequent usage could be painted in lower gloss paint such as satin or eggshell.
