CABINETRY
We at Hometowne Kitchen and Bath Design Center are here to assist you with all your needs in designing your bath, kitchen, office, entertainment center or any other areas needing cabinetry. We have access to all of the latest products and provide computer aided designs. Before begining we need some assistance from YOU.
EXAMINE your current or new layout and consider how the space is used and what you would like to change. MEASURE the overall dimensions of your current room or bring in blue prints.
Remember to include all doors (and which way they swing), windows, wall length and height. Be sure to include all trim. MAKE NOTES as to where water and gas lines are located. Do you have switches, electrical outlets, heating and air conditioning registers? Note APPLIANCES.
It is imperative that we have dimensions for stoves, microwaves, dishwashers and refrigerators. Do you want them changed to newer models? If you have model names and product numbers it is helpful if they are included.
It is also recommended to do a little homework. Walk through our show rooms, read through magazines and check out rooms your friends have remodeled. What wood species do you prefer? Cherry, Maple, Oak, Hickory, Alder, Pine, Walnut, Eucayptus, Mahogany and other exotic woods are available upon request.
ALDER is a fine grained hardwood similar to Cherry, Birch and Maple. Pale yellow/tan to reddish bown in color. A soft light wood with even texture and straight grain that accepts stain well. Characterisitics include random sized tight knots and rays.
BIRCH (usually White Birch), is a medium hardwood, similar to Maple but not as consistent in color as Maple. It is a good base for solid color fiishes, accepts stain unevenly and tend to mottle. Mottling is a blotchy apearance exident due to various densiities in the wood. It is not recommended for darker stains. Off white color, medium density, fine texture and straight grain are characteristics.
CHERRY is an even grained wood with a rich look. It may have some sapwood, mineral streaking, and/or small pin holes. Cherry darkens as it ages and darkening will be accelerated with exposure to direct sunlight.
MAPLE is a dense hardwood characterized by mild color tone and grain variations. It is generally quite uniform in color. As with cherry, maple will have mineral streaks and mellow with age.
PINE is a soft wood known for its yellowish tone and red knots. Pine will have small to large knots, some mineral streaking and pitch pockets which are part of the nature of the species.
HICKORY is very dense hardwood characterized by dramatic color tone and grain variations. These can vary from the almost white sapwood to a deep brown heartwood in the same piece of lumber. It too may have the knots, mineral streaking and pin holes which are synonymous in natural wood.
RED OAK is known for its strength and stability. The grain ranges from straight to arch shaped patterns and will vary in color tones by your selection of finish.
QUARTER SAWN OAK is a premim cut of red oak. This lumber is cut so the grain is straight in the cross section. This procedure provides the distinctive grain pattern of quarter sawn which is so popular in the Mission and Prairie style of furniture and cabinetry.
EUCALYPTUS available in some lines upon request.
MAHOGANY available in some lines upon request.
