CULTURED STONE

CULTURED STONE

Although OWENS CORNING company has been around since 1938 as a market leader in glass fiber technology it wasn't until 1962 when two California brothers originated the manufactured stone veneer.  These plasterers developed the stone veneer product; exact replicas of natural stone used for building, cast in flexible molds and hand colored with iron oxide pigments.  Made of lightweight aggregate materials, the veneers are approximately 1/4 the weight of full-thickness stone and can be adhered to most wall surfaces.

Today CSV (cultured stone veneer) trademark stamp still appears on each piece of stone to guarantee customers are getting the original product.   The cultured stone veneers are available in more than 21 textures and more than 100 colors.

ELDORADO STONE  is another manufacturer of architectural stone veneer.  The greatest difference between stone veneer and natural stone is the weight and thus installation processes.  Natural stone may require wall ties and footings which will increase installation cost and difficulty.  Stone veneer can be applied to any structurally sound surface with the proper preparation.  It can be installed on the interior or exterior, new or remodel projects and on a small or large scale.  If this product is used outside, proper flashing and water diversion techniques will help ensure a successful installation even though it has been freeze/thaw/durability tested.

Although stone veneer show no combustible properties it is recommended that it is installed at least 18" away from any direct flame.  However, it can be installed as a facade to fireplaces and behind stoves for that eye popping look.

Stone veneer is NOT recommended for use below the water line in a pool, fountain or below grade.  Check with the manufacturer to find the recommended penetrating breathable sealer where stone installation may be subject to frequent water run off.
